I love to think about how a tree’s roots extend as far into the ground as its branches reach into the sky. A tree is not just the part we see, but also the part that is hidden. To me this is a reminder that we are not limited to our physical bodies, but we are also comprised of an equal (and equally important) non-physical self.
I also love to think about that, and it also reminds me that we have a deep unconscious or subconscious in our minds and souls.
Moving to the Northeast United States, I have been amazed by the summer greenery and spectacular autumn foliage. But the long months with bare trees make me feel forlorn, and I filled my study with plants to create a greener view. Only with time have I appreciated the lines and bones of the strong bare trees, with or without snow. Recently I have begun to notice the more subtle, but also beautiful changes as spring approaches. The bare branches get a pink or green cast, and some have begun to bud. Raindrops glisten and sparkle. It’s a lesson in attentiveness.
